About Open Source

Type a name, get a result. This category narrows the search to products and businesses that publish their source code for anyone to read. Some are finished programs. Some are parts you wire into your own software. Some run on a server you control, and some are machine learning models with their workings in the open.

The page lists everything in the category and its subcategories, with filters to cut the list down. Newest listings come first. Switch to community votes if you want the crowd's order instead; votes are never for sale. Pick the subcategory closest to what the product actually does. Before you commit to anything, read the licence, see when the code last changed, and skim the documentation.

Open Source: questions answered

What counts as open source on this site?
A product whose source code is published so others can read it and, under a stated licence, reuse or change it. Hosted services fit if the code itself is public. A closed product with a free tier does not belong here.
How do I pick the right subcategory?
Go by how a user meets the product. Apps are used directly, libraries are imported into other code, self-hosted tools are installed on your own server, and open source AI covers models and their tooling. If two fit, choose the main use.
How do I get an open source project listed?
Open /submit and give your site's URL. A draft profile is generated from that page by AI, then you read it through and amend any field. Nothing publishes until you approve. A paid launch costs $5; a free listing waits about 6-8 weeks.
Can a project sit in more than one category?
Each listing has a main category, chosen at submission and included free. If your project straddles areas, an optional upgrade costing $5 places it in additional categories as well.
What should I compare when choosing between projects?
Start with the licence and whether it suits your use. Then look at recent activity, the quality of the documentation, how easy it is to leave later, and where your data ends up. A tidy listing page helps, but test it yourself.
