YaCy

YaCy is free search engine software for local search, organization-wide search portals, and a decentralized peer-to-peer web index.

YaCy can be run locally to build a search portal for an organization, used for intranet search, or joined as part of a decentralized peer-to-peer search network where users can define their own web index and start their own web crawls.

YaCy does not depend on a central search provider. In peer-to-peer mode, many independently run devices contribute to a shared search index, so no single company or server controls the network.

YaCy has a strong connection to privacy-aware tools. It does not collect personalized data and has no phone-home functionality integrated.

The brand YaCy is owned by a private company. While the software YaCy is non-profit, the company also provides consulting for YaCy and search-related business topics, and relies on community support through contributions and donations.
