The Search My Biz Info launch playbook

Every launch is different, but the same few steps come up again and again. Search My Biz Info sets them out here in order.

Before you launch

  1. 1. Give the page everything

Complete the listing and the founder profile now, while there is time. Clear words and a named founder do more than a long list of features.

    Your founder profile

  2. 2. Prepare your visuals

Show, do not tell: real screenshots of the product, a crisp logo and, if you have one, a short demo video.

  3. 3. Plan the date

Pick a launch week when you can be around to answer questions and reply to comments, not a week of travel or holidays.

    See the launch calendar

  4. 4. Warm up your contacts

Write the messages you will send on the day now: a post for each place you share and a note for your mailing list.

The day you go live

  1. 5. Take it to communities

Communities welcome makers who take part, not drive-by links. Follow each group's rules, and keep Show HN for a product people can use now.

  2. 6. Respond to everyone

Respond to every comment, on your listing and wherever you shared it. Short, honest answers are fine.

    Your listings

  3. 7. Announce it

Use your own accounts: a post on X, LinkedIn and Bluesky with the link, pinned to the top of your profile, and the link in your bio.

  4. 8. Let your subscribers know

Email the people who use your product and tell them where to find the launch. New sign-ups can see it in your welcome email.

Keep it honest. Votes can never be bought, each person has one, and asking for votes from borrowed or extra accounts is against the rules.

While the week runs

  1. 9. Keep the page current

Questions from launch day show what the page is missing. Add those answers and update anything out of date.

    Edit your listing

  2. 10. Spread the launch out

Choose a handful of directories that suit your product, rather than all of them. The list below is a good place to start.

    Find more launch directories

  3. 11. Put the launch badge on your website

Add the launch badge to your website footer or launch post. It links to your listing, so visitors can see the launch for themselves.

  4. 12. Give people a second chance to see it

A day or so after launch, post again on LinkedIn with something new: what people asked, what you changed or what you learnt.

Beyond launch week

  1. 13. Keep it accurate

Return to your listing after each release and bring the description, pricing and images up to date.

  2. 14. Read your own data

Compare the places you shared using your analytics. Links with tracking tags show which posts and directories brought sign-ups.

    See the launch receipts

  3. 15. Relaunch when there is news

Plan the next launch around a real change: a new version, a big feature or a milestone you can explain.

Questions

Should I submit to other directories too?
Choose the directories that list products like yours. Compare their prices and link types first, and avoid pasting the same text everywhere.
Is there anything to do after launch week?
Measure where sign-ups came from, keep the page current, and plan a relaunch around your next big update.
Is it all right to ask friends to vote?
You can tell people about the launch and let them decide. Each person has one vote, votes can never be bought, and votes from extra or borrowed accounts are not allowed.
When is the best time to post about my launch?
As soon as it is live on launch day. Keep the rest of the week for replies, edits and one follow-up post.
